| APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO
PRIMARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
When do schools accept foreign
students?
Foreign student applications are accepted at schools
subject to availability of vacancies. Applications can be
made anytime during the year.
Josse would
help your child to apply for admision to any schools in
Singapore.
Entrance Test conducted by schools for foreign
students
The foreign student will be given Entrance Test in English,
Mathematics and Mother Tongue Language (where applicable).
The test is conducted by the school which the foreign student
is seeking admission to. The placement test fee is as follows:
| placement
test fee |
primary |
secondary |
| first subject |
SGD $30 |
SGD $44 |
| every additional subject |
SGD $15 |
SGD $22 |
|
Josse recommends foreign
students to come to Singapore at 6 months earlier to take
up English language and Preparatory classes. The programme
will help to prepare the student for the School Entrance
Test to gain admission to a government school.
Level of Admission
Besides the student's performance in the School Assessment
Test, foreign students will be considered for admission
to a level subject to documentary proof that the foreign
student has completed the previous level, and subject to
the age
criteria for the level of admission.
Eligible age to enter primary
or secondary school.
Exemption from offering Chinese, Malay or Tamil
as a Mother Tongue Language
Exemption from the mother tongue requirement may be considered
on a case-by-case basis after the student has been admitted
to school. Application for exemption should be made through
the school principal who will refer the application to the
Languages & Literature Branch, MInistry of Education,
for consideration.
Josse can
help you with this if you do not want your child to take
up Chinese, malay or Tamil as a Monther Tongue language.
Does my child need a Guardian?
A Local Sponsor (who usually acts
as the Guardian) is required for the application
for a Student's Pass and applicant is required to submit
the application through the Local Sponsor. The foreign student
is required to provide the particulars of the Guardian for
contact purposes. The Guardian should be a Singapore citizen
or permanent resident, above 21 years of age and should
normally be the person whom the foreign student is lodging
with. After successful admission to school, a foreign student
should report any change in guardianship to the school principal.
Stay with the TAN
family when your child studies in Singapore. Josse would
be the Guardian and we would take care of your child.
Donations to the Education Fund
A foreign student is requested to make biennial donations
(that is, payable once every two years) to the Education
Fund of the Ministry of Education if the student's application
to study in Singapore is approved. The biennial donations
are at the flat rate of S$1,000 for every two years of study.

to the Education Fund.
School Fees
For Government and Government-Aided Schools, the monthly
rates of school fees payable are S$80 for primary, S$130
for secondary and S$240 for pre-university levels. School
fees are affordable.
