Entry to Singapore Government Primary or Secondary schools
is commonly through obtaining satisfactory results in
Entrance
Tests set by the respective schools. Because
of the difference in education system, foreign students
who intend to enrol in the local government schools may
face great challenges in terms of educational standards,
especially for students from non-English speaking countries.
Courses to prepare for
the Entrance Tests
Therefore the Singapore government conducts courses
for foreign students to prepare them for government school
admission tests. The course is based on the syllabus set
by the Ministry of Education of Singapore and is exam-oriented,
to prepare the student for the entrance tests conducted
by the local government schools.
The preparatory course is also designed
to equip foreign students with the English proficiency
needed to study in Singapore schools as English is the
medium of instruction. This will allow the students to
smoothen their transition into primary or secondary schools
especially dealing with subjects such as Mathematics and
Science.
Subjects covered include English,
Mathematics and Science. The syllabus covered during the
course is in accordance with that set by the Ministry
of Education, and thus prepares the student for educational
system in the government schools.
The preparatory course duration is about 6 – 12
months. The primary and secondary preparatory course fee
